As part of our ongoing exploration of creativity and expression, Sarah Pacini collaborates with Belgian singer, composer and theatre creator Adja. In Brussels, we sat down with her to discuss the intersections of sound, movement, and self-expression, and how authenticity in her music reveals a moment of stillness between notes - a stillness that mirrors our own pursuit of balance and form. Together, we explore the timeless dialogue between art, music, and style.

ON FINDING HER VOICE
Her music, a blend of Soul, Jazz and R&B, defies easy categorization. It moves between introspection and playfulness, between grounded rhythm and ethereal melody. “My style has a few different moods,” she says, smiling. “I’d call them the mysterious one and the sporty or humorous one. The mysterious side is where I explore that fine line between Bohemian and Business. I’m drawn to pieces that move, that breathe, earthy tones, seventies shapes, fabrics that carry energy. I think Sarah Pacini designs from that same place. There’s softness, but also discipline. It’s poetic, but clear. It’s that tension between nature and city that I really relate to.”

ON INSPIRATION AND PROCESS
Adja’s songs often begin in quiet moments, a walk in the forest, a lingering scent, a fragment of dialogue that turns into melody. “I’m inspired by the cycles of emotion,” she explains. “I appreciate the fact that humans have lots of layered emotions, often paradoxical feelings coexist. Writing songs feels like I get to distill those moments. Theatre has also shaped my process. I studied it as a child, so I think in archetypes and metaphors. It helps me translate big feelings into sound.”

“Clothes change how I move and how I sing. I prefer silhouettes that are loose and layered - they allow freedom, but also mirror our multifaceted world - everything around us is multifaceted and tiered. Style isn’t about hiding; it’s about expanding what you already feel.”

ON STYLE AND STAGE PRESENCE
Adja describes her relationship with fashion as both intuitive and intentional. “Clothes change how I move and how I sing. I prefer silhouettes that are loose and layered - they allow freedom and emphasize my love for mystery and playfulness, in that way. Style isn’t about hiding; it’s about expanding what you already feel.” For her, this collaboration with Sarah Pacini is more than a wardrobe. “We’re exploring what it looks like when sound and design speak the same language. The clothes carry the same emotional weight as the music: movement, strength, and subtlety.”

“Collaboration is a form of dialogue. It’s not about blending two worlds superficially; it’s about understanding where they overlap.”

ON COLLABORATION AND CREATIVITY
She speaks thoughtfully when asked about creative partnerships. “Collaboration is a form of dialogue. It’s not about blending two worlds superficially; it’s about understanding where they overlap. I look for authenticity in every exchange, whether it’s with musicians, stylists or a brand like Sarah Pacini. Trust and curiosity make creativity flow.” That sincerity defines her work.

ON VALUES AND BALANCE
Integrity, generosity and courage are words Adja returns to often. “I believe in showing all sides of myself,” she says. “Even the unflattering ones. Vulnerability makes art human.” She reflects on the balance between her personal and artistic identity. “On stage, I don’t play a role; I amplify who I already am. Performing teaches you presence. You can’t repeat or correct. You have to trust the moment. That’s freedom to me, even if simultaneously, it’s a tough teacher.”

ON WHAT SHE HOPES TO GIVE BACK
“I hope people leave my shows feeling a little lighter or braver, I want them to feel inspired to sing, to speak, to express whatever lives inside them. Better to dance with your feelings than to silence them.”

The encounter between Adja and Sarah Pacini is one of shared vision, a meeting between two worlds that believe in expression as an art form. Her music enriches our story with emotion and depth, while our silhouettes offer her the visual rhythm that mirrors her sound. In both, there is movement, strength and grace. A dialogue of soul and style, timeless, sincere and alive.
